Occupy Mineola Rocking the Occupy Movement!

01/23/2012 in Calls to Action, Misc. Events, News

Mineola will be having it’s next General Assembly on Saturday, Jan 28, 2012 around 2:30pm. We will be moving the meeting to a new location this week to join up in a march with NYCC.

Location:

Nassau County
91 N. Franklin Room -209
Hempstead, NY 11550

New York Communities for Change is allowing us to meet at their office so we can gather positive information for the future. This would be a great time to get some information to coordinate an Island-wide GA or Event. This meeting is open to all groups since we all have the same issues. We could use someone from another GA to facilitate so we don’t have the same people facilitating over and over. Coffee and Cake will be served.

Here are some of the issues we are working on:

Occupy Mineola will be joining NY Communities for Change in a march as we take back our homes. The exact area is unknown… the general area is Hempstead/South Hempstead. All General Assembles on Long Island N.Y are welcome to attend. All other groups with similiar goals are also encouraged to attend. We meet at 11:30, start at 12, end at 2:30, GA at 2:30. We will be taking back vacant homes for the communities that have been foreclosed on by the big banks and through predatory lending. This is not an occupation where we occupy a home but a March in preparation for a future Direct Action.

Environmental Issues:

Laura from Mineola will be going into Brooklyn and coordinating with OWS regarding an Earth Day event. If anyone attending is an environmental activist or your main interest is in protecting the environment you may want to attend this OWS event. It’s a fact gathering, networking, coordination event where we are attempting to meetup with other like-minded Environmentalists in the hopes of starting a working group ASAP to address issues such as fracking, chem-trails, oil-spills, coal-ash, raw sewage spills, air-intrusion contamination… the list goes on and on.
